New hydrogen storage option may pave the way for more electric vehicles

Storing hydrogen underground in salt caverns would allow for an expansion of the fuel cell electric vehicle market. Underground storage removes the cost of above ground holding tanks, and the caverns are virtually leak-proof.

Storage is a key component in the growth of the hydrogen market, and large storage options will be necessary if vehicle manufacturers continue with plans to develop hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles.

More environmental studies and research still needs to be done, but it’s likely the future of transportation includes hydrogen options.
